The Fiberglass Geogrid to Prevent Low Temperature Shrinkage Cracking

Causes of Low Temperature Shrinkage Cracking

In winter, the temperature of asphalt pavement in cold areas is close to the temperature. Under such temperature conditions, asphalt concrete shrinks when it is cooled, resulting in tensile stress. When the tensile stress exceeds the tensile strength of asphalt concrete, cracks will occur on the pavement. Cracks occur where cracks are concentrated. From the cause of crack, how to make asphalt concrete strength resist tensile stress is the key to solve the problem.

Working Principle of Glass Fiber Geogrid

Lay the fiberglass geogrid in asphalt overlay greatly. It improves the tensile strength of asphalt concrete. Therefore, it can resist large tensile stress. And prevent damage to the road surface. In addition, even if cracks occur in the local area, the stress at the crack location is too concentrated. However, the stress will gradually disappear through the transmission of glass fiber geogrid. Therefore. And the racks will no longer develop into cracks.

Selection of Glass Fiber Geogrid

In the selection of glass fiber geogrid, in addition to its performance indicators should meet the requirements of the above table, special attention should be paid to ensuring the following requirements. Its width is not less than 1.5m. This is to satisfy that it has enough cross-sectional area to fully dissipate crack energy.  At the same time, the mesh size should be 0.5-1.0 times of the maximum particle size of the asphalt surface material. This will help to achieve the best shear viscosity. And promote aggregate locking and restriction.
